Losing Our Principles Over a “What If”
This evening’s Hannity & Colmes featured separate interviews with Dr. James Dobson and Ann Coulter. A lot of Republicans have been up in arms over Dr. Dobson saying that “values voters” should not compromise on their principles and vote for a pro-abortion Republican just because he’s the nominee. Ann Coulter agrees, Sean Hannity disagrees. It’s not that they have a different set of principles, but they have a different perspective on the immediate fight.
Right now we have 8 or 9 or whatever choices, not one. Hannity and many other conservatives are getting in a tizzy over a “what if.” He’s arguing over a choice that’s not even on the table yet. Granted the prospect of President Hillary Clinton is upsetting, but let’s not lose our heads or our principles just yet. This is like the 2000 election when Pat Buchanan ran against Gore and Bush. He was a bulldog against both of them. But when the recount started, Buchanan knew that the fight was now against Gore. Like Buchanan, Coulter is not compromising on principles for the sake of answering a hypothetical situation. The rest of us shouldn’t either.
